Cozy games for winding down at night

March 22, 2026 · Lena Vasnetsová

Not every game needs to test my reflexes. Some nights I want the opposite — something that slows my brain down. That's when I reach for the cozy pile.

Hollow Lantern is my current go-to. There's no fail state to speak of, just a quiet town to wander and lamps to light, and the art does something calming to my mood. I've replayed the opening a few times just for the atmosphere.

Greenhouse Tycoon fills a different niche. It's gently productive — you plant, you tend, you check back later — and there are no aggressive timers pushing you around. It scratches the tidy-up itch without demanding anything.

The common thread is that these games don't punish you for stepping away. You can put the phone down mid-task and nothing bad happens. That's exactly what I want from a wind-down game.
