Ashen Vow Chronicles
Ashen Vow Chronicles is the kind of mobile RPG that made me miss my stop. The story follows a broken order of knights trying to hold a crumbling border, and the writing treats you like an adult — characters disagree, plans fail, and choices actually stick. Combat is turn-based with a positioning twist, so where you stand on the grid matters as much as your gear.
Progression is generous without being mindless. You build a party of four from a wider roster, and each character has a small skill web rather than a bloated tree, so respeccing to try a new tactic never feels punishing. I appreciated that the game lets you save mid-battle, which is exactly what a mobile RPG should do.
The only friction is that a couple of mid-game chapters lean on repeated encounters to pace out story beats. Push through and the back half is worth it. This is our favorite RPG on the site right now.
What we liked
- Genuinely well-written branching story
- Grid combat where position matters
- Mid-battle saves that respect mobile play
